Surroundings

  • Les Armengauds is situated along the route of Pays de Cathare, in the hilly landscape of the Lauragais (Aude / Languedoc-Roussillon). Labécède is a picturesque little village.
  • The estate is located at the end of a country road where you have a panoramic view over corn and sunflower fields at one side, and over the wooded foot of the Montagne Noir at the other side.
  • At a distance of 12 kilometre you find the little town Castelnaudary. The Canal du Midi is a manmade connecting canal between the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. The Canal du Midi is also the water supply canal for Lac St. Ferréol (5 km), a lake which is great for windsurfing, waterbiking, and of course swimming and sunbathing.
  • At a distance of 5 kilometre you find Revel, a little town that is known for its saturday market.
  • Somewhat further away are Carcassonne La Cité (50 km), a castle/stronghold with 52 towers and Toulouse (50 km), the pink city. Albi offers you the basilica St. Sernin, the Toulouse Lautrec Museum and the majestic cathedral. These cities have an exceptional architectural history
  • Toulouse is definitely a must for culture, history, a night out and shopping.
  • Taste wine on a chateau is of course also a possibility.

In the environment of Armengauds you can hike, bike and so much more.

  • A lot of VTT-routes and hiking routes are available. In the Montagne Noir you can enjoy the peacefulness and the fresh air. You pass many authentic villages that look as if time stood still.
  • For the experienced hiker the GR7 (‘grande randonneé’, at a distance of 3 km) is a challenge. This route runs through the Haute Languedoc.
  • A book with hiking routes is available for inspection in the ‘Ruïne’.
  • Lac Saint Ferréol (at a distance of 5 km): swimming, surfing, sailing, tennis, miniature golf, horseback riding and hiking.
  • Canal du Midi (at a distance of 10 km): hiking, biking (bicycle track) and mountain biking.
  • Les Armengauds is situated along the route of the Pays de Cathare, famous for its age-old fortresses.

The following activities are an option in the near surroundings.

  • Gliding (sailplanes)
  • Swimming, hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, water sports
  • For culinary wishes you can visit well-established restaurants in Pomerède and Saint Félix (both restaurants have a Michelin star) or one of the many little restaurants in the neighbourhood. During the high season we can recommend our own Table d’Hotes.

  • The Mediterranean Sea at a distance of approximately 120 km (a 1,5 hour drive).
  • The Pyrenees (a 1 hour drive)
